Designing for the Future: Acoustic & Energy Efficiency Solutions at WSP London

WSP London Office

WSP, a global engineering and professional services firm, set out to transform their London office into a pioneering sustainable retrofit. The firm’s five-floor office at 70 Chancery Lane underwent a radical redesign to reduce operational emissions and improve energy performance, supporting the UK’s net-zero goals. Acoufelt’s premium acoustic solutions played a critical role in achieving this vision by enhancing acoustic comfort while aligning with the building’s broader sustainability objectives.

To address the acoustic challenges of a busy open-plan office, Acoufelt supplied a combination of Fracture Wall Panels, Full Colour Panels, and Linear Ceiling Baffles, strategically placed to enhance sound control while complementing the overall design aesthetic.

  • Fracture Wall Panels in ‘Turmeric’, ‘Currant’, ‘Platinum’, and ‘Granite’ provided a textural and visual statement while absorbing excess noise. Their ’Fineline’ design added a sense of depth to the space, elevating the interior design beyond standard wall treatments.
  • Full Colour Panels in the same colourways were integrated into key areas to provide additional sound absorption while maintaining a cohesive look with the Fracture panels.
  • Linear Ceiling Baffles in ‘Granite’ were installed above the breakout and collaborative zones, reducing reverberation and excess noise in high-traffic areas.

The bold yet refined palette of Acoufelt colourways created a warm and contemporary atmosphere, aligning with WSP’s brand identity. The combination of textured and smooth panels provided both a striking visual contrast and an effective acoustic solution.

The NABERS process guided the decision to implement a mixed-mode HVAC system in WSP’s London office, ensuring the building’s energy efficiency aligns with sustainability goals. This system reduces energy demand by 65%, leveraging natural cooling through the glazed façade. Acoufelt was chosen for its sustainable credentials, with FilaSorb™ made from over 60% recycled PET and produced using 40% renewable energy. This commitment to eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions supports both the office’s sustainability targets and the well-being of its occupants.

The result is an energy-efficient, acoustically optimized workspace that blends sustainability with cutting-edge design. Acoufelt’s solutions played a crucial role in crafting an environment where collaboration thrives, enhancing employee well-being and productivity, without compromising on comfort or design.
