Acoufelt staff take October wellness day to promote health and wellbeing
In response to sustained lockdowns experienced across Australia, Acoufelt announced it would be rewarding its Australian employees with a day of paid leave during the month of October.
Coined internally as ‘October Wellness Day’, the initiative was introduced by directorship as a ‘thankyou’ to staff for their admirable work ethic during the COVID-19 crisis, and to acknowledge the hardships and mental toll faced over the course of the pandemic.
According to the ABS (2021), 1 in 5 Australians experienced ‘high or very high levels’ of psychological distress between the months of March 2021 and June 2021. Facing lockdowns, border restrictions, economic hardships, and other related difficulties, Acoufelt saw the opportunity to check in on staff well-being and encourage them to take time to focus on their physical and mental health.
Acoufelt’s CEO Ben Grace says “the last 18 months has had an impact on us all, in one way or another. Despite these challenges, our workforce demonstrated incredible resilience and adaptability, enabling the company to come through the other side in a leading position. Keeping agile and embracing change is one of our corporate values, so we have taken pride in watching our staff live this out in practice. However, the importance of providing a supportive framework could not be neglected. As a thankyou to the team, and an acknowledgement of their sustained efforts in challenging times, we deemed it necessary to encourage staff to take time to check in on their personal well-being.” Employees were given the opportunity to select a day of their choosing within the month of October with the provisor that they would partake in an activity to promote their personal welfare.
Mr Grace says “it has been a pleasure hearing about some of the fun and interesting ways our staff spent their October Wellness Day.
